The perfect Labor Day post is a post about work.
Proverbs 21:5 says, "Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty." In other words, good things take time, and if you rush it, prepare for it to all fall apart.
Stop rushing for success. Success is incremental, and it is definitely not a straight line. You are going to need to put in the work. Just do the work. I can't believe how simple the concept, yet few will choose to do the work.
Your caveat moving forward in the week. If anyone is telling you that you can shortcut something, run. It's going to require work. This applies not only to work. It applies to digging yourself out of debt, writing a book, losing weight, investing, and I can go on and on.
Create your plan, and work the plan. Work hard. Working hard often is confused with sacrificing time with family and friends. That is a lie. Work hard in the hours allotted. This does not mean work 24-7. Create a schedule and follow the...

I personally don't deal with as many "meetings" as I once did in the past, yet every once in a while I have someone ask me to meet up to talk about some biz. My first question is what is the meeting about? A meeting is a waste of time unless there is an agenda and an action plan that results from the meeting. The action must also be taken and held accountable.
Would you like to get more productive? Stop having meetings to have meetings. You will get so much more done in a day, and if you're going to have a meeting, require the following:
Weeds...I despise them. One of the hardest things to keep up with to maintain our yard and flower beds is keeping the weeds out. This is one of the things I leverage out, and the lucky individuals are my kids. This doesn't mean that I don't have to follow up on their work.
In life and business we have weeds, and I divide weeds into two categories; people and our thoughts.
People can be the weeds in your life that choke you out. They can prevent you from growth and success if you allow them to spread their roots in your soil. They can pervade by spreading their negativity, hate, jealousy, and their desire to not see you truly succeed. If you don't believe the last one, I've personally had people tell me they hope I don't succeed. These individuals will intentionally, and at times unintentionally, plant the seeds that can become invasive in our lives and take us off our game.
What do you do with these individuals? You cut the weeds out. You spray them down with a coating...
How do you react to a situation? It matters.
Everyday there are going to be things that just don't go the way you intended. That seems to be the case a lot more lately I truly believe because of the pressure cooker environment created by the virus and geopolitical/social issues. In fact this morning, we found out that our June 2021 cruise has now been cancelled. Our family was really looking forward to this 10 day trip that left Galveston for Key West, Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay, and Nassau aboard the Carnival Radiance.
How did I initially react when I found out? Not well. I have to say I was disappointed. The cancellation stirred the emotions of having all the family members of our home celebrating birthdays essentially in quarantine. It got me thinking about my kids' uncertainty with what schooling is going to look like that is supposed to start August 11th. It got me thinking one more disappointment, one more frustration, and what is next.
For every action there is a...
What are you doing to stretch your mind every day? One of the things I've personally implemented in my life is attempting to learn one thing that I did not know yesterday. Fortunately access to information is in abundance, and sometimes it is figuring out what is that one new thing I want to learn.
This evening, I made the decision to give up some TV time to watch a live webinar on online lead generation and social media presence. I have to say, I learned a few new things that I was not implementing before. It is a mentality I've been working on over the last decade to be okay not knowing everything, and to approach life and understanding to approach things in curiosity. What I've experienced in this approach is the opening of new doors and opportunities.
Did you know that elephants eat 100 - 200 lbs of plants every day? If you didn't, now you do. Sometimes the information is "useless", yet it might be the answer to the question in Jeopardy that allows me to surpass...
While mowing my yard this weekend, which in the past I hired out, it got me thinking about the topic of leverage.
Leverage. This can be a tricky topic for the business owner that is looking to expand their business to the next level. At the end of the day, we all have the same amount of time, and why the different levels of success? It is how we use that time, and leverage is a tool to get back more time to focus on dollar producing activities. There is a caveat.
What if I shared with you that through observation over my years of coaching using the lever of leverage might have created more harm than good. Having personally worked on a team and in leadership roles, leverage was important, yet it was critical to choose the right time to leverage and the right reason. It also means understanding how to leverage whether it is through people, systems, and/or tools. Most associate leverage only with people.
Oftentimes, I will see a business leader go right to leverage to...
