3 Business Lessons from a Taekwondo Black Belt Endurance Test

Aug 01, 2020

Jeremy Williams

My son, Logan, had one of the most physical challenges he has faced in his life last night taking the endurance test for Black Belt at K-Taekwondo. He had one hour to complete the following:

  • 60 push-ups
  • 80 sit-ups
  • 80 squats
  • 180 side-to-side jumps
  • 100 roundhouse kicks
  • 200 front snap kicks
  • 60 burpees with 2 snap kicks after each burpee
  • 7 zig zag laps under 57 seconds
  • 100 jumping jacks.

Reading it still amazes me his fortitude to push through the nausea and pain to complete all the above. It is amazing how many lessons in this experience transfer directly into being a successful business owner.

Lesson #1 - Embrace the Pain

Logan, "Daddy this hurts. My stomach is hurting. I need a minute." Things you don't want to hear as a father, yet in the growth building of this opportunity I had to stay the encourager.

There is going to be pain when you're a business owner. Most will choose to run away from the pain and few will...

Why Are You Having Meetings? Raise Your Productivity Level Today

Jul 30, 2020

Jeremy Williams

I personally don't deal with as many "meetings" as I once did in the past, yet every once in a while I have someone ask me to meet up to talk about some biz. My first question is what is the meeting about? A meeting is a waste of time unless there is an agenda and an action plan that results from the meeting. The action must also be taken and held accountable.

Would you like to get more productive? Stop having meetings to have meetings. You will get so much more done in a day, and if you're going to have a meeting, require the following:

  1. It is scheduled. Impromptu meetings are the biggest waste of time.
  2. There is an agenda. No agenda, no meeting.
  3. The meeting serves an actual purpose, and your role or attendance is necessary for the meeting to function. I can't tell you how many times I've been in a meeting as a "bump on the log" because the decisions had absolutely nothing to do with my role, and my input wasn't necessary for the decisions to be made.
  4. As mentioned...

Getting Rid of the Weeds | Coach Jeremy Williams

Jul 28, 2020

Jeremy Williams

Weeds...I despise them. One of the hardest things to keep up with to maintain our yard and flower beds is keeping the weeds out. This is one of the things I leverage out, and the lucky individuals are my kids. This doesn't mean that I don't have to follow up on their work.

In life and business we have weeds, and I divide weeds into two categories; people and our thoughts.

People can be the weeds in your life that choke you out. They can prevent you from growth and success if you allow them to spread their roots in your soil. They can pervade by spreading their negativity, hate, jealousy, and their desire to not see you truly succeed. If you don't believe the last one, I've personally had people tell me they hope I don't succeed. These individuals will intentionally, and at times unintentionally, plant the seeds that can become invasive in our lives and take us off our game.

What do you do with these individuals? You cut the weeds out. You spray them down with a coating...

How You React to a Situation Matters | Coach Jeremy Williams

Jul 28, 2020

Jeremy Williams

How do you react to a situation? It matters.

Everyday there are going to be things that just don't go the way you intended. That seems to be the case a lot more lately I truly believe because of the pressure cooker environment created by the virus and geopolitical/social issues. In fact this morning, we found out that our June 2021 cruise has now been cancelled. Our family was really looking forward to this 10 day trip that left Galveston for Key West, Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay, and Nassau aboard the Carnival Radiance.

How did I initially react when I found out? Not well. I have to say I was disappointed. The cancellation stirred the emotions of having all the family members of our home celebrating birthdays essentially in quarantine. It got me thinking about my kids' uncertainty with what schooling is going to look like that is supposed to start August 11th. It got me thinking one more disappointment, one more frustration, and what is next.

For every action there is a...

Stretch Your Mind Daily | Coach Jeremy Williams

Jul 28, 2020

Jeremy Williams

What are you doing to stretch your mind every day? One of the things I've personally implemented in my life is attempting to learn one thing that I did not know yesterday. Fortunately access to information is in abundance, and sometimes it is figuring out what is that one new thing I want to learn.

This evening, I made the decision to give up some TV time to watch a live webinar on online lead generation and social media presence. I have to say, I learned a few new things that I was not implementing before. It is a mentality I've been working on over the last decade to be okay not knowing everything, and to approach life and understanding to approach things in curiosity. What I've experienced in this approach is the opening of new doors and opportunities.

Did you know that elephants eat 100 - 200 lbs of plants every day? If you didn't, now you do. Sometimes the information is "useless", yet it might be the answer to the question in Jeopardy that allows me to surpass...

Study What You're Passionate About Growing in Either Business or Life

Jul 15, 2020

Jeremy Williams

Study...I can't tell you how many times this word left my mouth in the last 9 weeks of the school year that were done from home via Zoom. Some of the questions they were asking me, especially my daughter on the topic of math, I was probably not the best source. (This humors me because I was 2 or 3 classes from being a math major.) Study...go learn.

What about us as adult business owners? What about us as people in our 20's, 30's, 40's and beyond on the topic of studying? For our youth we were focused on studying, most of us, so we could make the grades to pass to the next level of education. My question: Why do most people stop studying whether it is for the benefit of growing their business, understanding and maximizing wealth, or even studying to obtain the skill sets to pick up a new instrument or language?

This reality has smacked me right between the eyes over the last couple of weeks. It is in the area building wealth through real estate investment. Now...

Haters Gonna Hate | Coach Jeremy Williams

Jul 08, 2020

Jeremy Williams

I've been a Jim Rohn kick this week, and I figured I would finish out this week sharing from Excerpts from The Treasury of Quotes by Jim Rohn.

Jim shared, "The few who do are the envy of the many who only watch". Early in my career, I never really understood the term "haters", and reflecting back it was because I reigned in both my thoughts and actions to appease others. In a personal growth journey of my own over more recent years, the term "haters" has gained more of my attention.

As I've put myself out there, partly to make myself more vulnerable so that I can open myself up to learn more, and because I truly am passionate about helping others, the "haters" have cropped up. I don't share this with many because "haters" are low energy; they can suck the life right out of you if you allow it to happen.

What causes people to hate on your accomplishments and growth? I believe Jim Rohn addresses this in his quote, "The few who do are...
