How do you react to a situation? It matters.
Everyday there are going to be things that just don't go the way you intended. That seems to be the case a lot more lately I truly believe because of the pressure cooker environment created by the virus and geopolitical/social issues. In fact this morning, we found out that our June 2021 cruise has now been cancelled. Our family was really looking forward to this 10 day trip that left Galveston for Key West, Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay, and Nassau aboard the Carnival Radiance.
How did I initially react when I found out? Not well. I have to say I was disappointed. The cancellation stirred the emotions of having all the family members of our home celebrating birthdays essentially in quarantine. It got me thinking about my kids' uncertainty with what schooling is going to look like that is supposed to start August 11th. It got me thinking one more disappointment, one more frustration, and what is next.
For every action there is a...
Noise. There is a lot of noise in our world today ranging from COVID-19 to race to historical statues to politics to business shutdowns to murder hornets mounted on shark horses...and the list goes on and on. I often get asked from business owners, "How do you cut through the noise?" Why it may seem difficult, the answer is quite simple.
You've got to keep doing what you've always done. In some cases you need to outwork yourself. It's about keeping your head down, laser focused, and knowing precisely what needs to happen daily to keep you moving forward.
Why do horses wear blinkers sometimes known as blinders? This piece of horse tack is so the horse does not get distracted by things to the rear, in some cases, to the side. The horse is focused on what is right in front of them.
How do you cut through the noise? Put on the blinkers. Have your business plan at hand to remind yourself of your goal. Don't get sucked in. Don't get divided. Don't buy into that which is...

What do I see more often than not prevent a business owner from growing to the next level? The answer is excuses. We can be our own worst enemy in the progress to achieving massive success.
Definition of Excuse: attempt to lessen the blame attaching to (a fault or offense), seek to defend or justify
I know over the years I've dealt with making excuses in my personal and professional life (exactly why as a coach, I have a coach to keep me accountable). I believe excuses get easier to make as we are approach an area that makes us feel uncomfortable. Excuses can serve as a defense mechanism to avoid the pain of stretching our being to accomplish BIG goals, or to keep that small voice from getting louder in our head telling us we will not succeed; a preconceived notion that failure is looming on the horizon (It's almost like we've pre-written the story that attempting "x" won't result in "y", and the excuse protects us from...

One of the things I've worked to deconstruct over the last few years when I made the decision to launch my coaching business is the mindset that everything is compartmentalized. Business is business. Life is life. Church is church. Health is health. You get the idea.
When I was working out in the gym this morning, thinking on my health goals, and they are big, it made me think about how everything is interlinked. You can't put things into boxes. It just doesn't work.
For example, working out improves my health, and improving my health gives me the energy I need to help more people in my business. Having better health helps me physically keep up with my kid's activities, and in some cases participate in those activities. I've still have to throw a football 40 yards to my son that wants to see me throw it deep to him. Having better health is important to the relationship with my wife to grow old together with God willing the best...
"When you approach a task - especially an important one you don't relish - fix your mind on the facts, no on your feelings. Focus on the possibilities, not the problems. That will put your attitude on the right track. And if it starts on the right track, it's more likely to end up at the right destination." - John Maxwell's Today Matters
Attitude is everything. This does not mean everything that happens in life is going to be rainbows and roses, yet we can choose our attitude when it comes to dealing with a challenge. Dealing in facts and possibilities helps to avoid the mess of what comes from emotions and seeing everything as a problem.
When do you get to choose your attitude? I believe this happens as your feet hit the floor when getting out of bed each day. In that moment you can either have the attitude that it is going to be a great day, or that the world is out to get you. Which is more productive? While...
