Fighting for Connection

Red Hawk Coaching Real Estate and Small Business Coach Jeremy Williams

We all long for connection and to be connected with someone or something. It is wired in us, and it can’t be denied. If you want to destroy anyone, deny them the ability to connect. Look at what the leaders in our country are doing. Really ask yourself if social media is to bring us together or divide us into warring factions. Why is suicide of those ages 10 - 24 up 60% from 2007 - 2018 according to an article in UC Davis Health. (BTW - For ages 10 - 34, suicide is now the second leading cause of death.) Lack of connection leads to the ability to divide, and the ability to divide leads to horrific consequences.

How do you change this?

You battle to hold marriages together. You raise your kids to respect others despite their differences, and you let them know that they do not have to compromise their beliefs. You pick up the phone today instead of sending a text or something through Messenger to see how they are doing. You take a stand for someone else that might not have the ability to do so. You pray for the country and leadership knowing God’s plan will always be bigger.

To have connection, you’ve got to fight for it. You have to want there to be a connection with someone or something. You need to get purposeful.

I am not the most outwardly going person. For me to connect, I’ve got to be intentional about it. The other night, my wife and I attended an event at a social club, and we intentionally sat with people we did not know. Was it comfortable, not initially, yet my desire to be in connection with people outweighed being uncomfortable. We had a delightful conversation, and we found out that we had a lot of things in common.

How do you conquer the many divisions in our world today? Get purposeful in connecting with others. Don’t fall for the trap of division.

Get connected!
