Avoiding Assumptions in the Idea of Perception is Reality

How many times have you heard that your perception is your reality? I believe their is truth in this though there is a caveat. The caveat is not to allow your personal assumptions to creep into the decision making process based on your initial perception.

An example would be a business owner not giving someone the time of day because of their physical appearance, or the way they dress, or the car they pull up in. Coming to the conclusion that they can't afford their product because of the assumptions made based on perception may cost them a sale (sometimes a BIG sale). This is also something that can happen in hiring talent, and it happens in all aspects of life and business.

The equation always taught is perception = reality.

The equation I believe to be more on point is perception - assumptions = reality.
