Quit Listening to the Naysayers

As a business owner, have you heard the naysayers that for one reason or another don’t want you to be successful? Sometimes these individuals are outside your circles, yet sometimes it can be a close friend, colleague, or even family. ⁣

When I launched my coaching business, I had fellow colleagues that told me I was stupid. I had friends that would say, “You might want to reconsider your decision. It is just going to be too hard to go out on your own.” (Looking back in hindsight, the lesson learned was not everyone is a friend...tough lesson to learn.) Some of the greatest challenges in the early stages was mindset because of all the unsolicited advice from individuals that did not have my interest in mind, and from individuals that clearly did not understand my why.⁣

3 years in, my business is thriving. I am helping more and more real estate agents and small businesses. Dots are connecting, and new and bigger doors are opening. I’ve remained consistent, and consistency is the magic sauce that leads to results. Someone asked yesterday why do I coach. It’s simple...I’ve always been fueled by helping others, and I am skilled at doing it.⁣

Why do I share this? Why be so transparent? ⁣

First, I believe our world needs more transparency in what it takes to build a business. It is not for everyone, and it is reserved for the committed. Too many companies, especially in the sales world, will bring someone on if they can fog a mirror. This type of decision making results in poor results for that sales organization, and I believe a complete disservice to the individual that is not truly equipped which impacts their opportunity of success, and it can be financially devastating to their family. (I will do a post on this at some point that will probably make some people mad and/or uncomfortable. And, I believe truth always wins.)⁣

Second, and the point of me sharing this today, is that people will get in your mind space, if you allow them, telling you that you’re crazy, you’re stupid, go get a “real job”, you won’t make it, etc. I can’t tell you the number of these type of conversations I’ve had with business owners over the years. Again it could be colleagues, friends, and maybe even a spouse.⁣

There are two choices here. First, you believe them, and when you buy into their thoughts and beliefs, don’t count on success in your business. You will be your own worst enemy with that mindset. Second, you go after it. You can’t dip your toes in the water. (BTW dipping your toes in the water gets results that validate the beliefs of those that don’t want you to be successful.) You’ve got to build a plan. I personally use a GPS...a one page business plan. You must use a calendar. You’ve got to do the activities that will get you results. Remember, busy does not equal productive. You’ve got to do the activities every single day with no excuses. You must be consistent. ⁣

Is what I’m saying simple? Absolutely. Is it easy to execute? Absolutely not. See everything starts with mindset. Allowing the naysayers into your mind space will derail you. Keeping the naysayers away, staying in your lane with the right mindset, and choosing to do the right activities will set you on a path to success.⁣

If you are in a place in your business where you are feeling defeated, you’re wanting to go to the next level, yet the naysayers are occupying your mind space, let’s have a conversation. I’ve helped 100’s over the years reach amazing breakthroughs in both business and life. I know I can help you too...only if you’re ready and honest with yourself to step out.⁣
