Houston, Texas is the most populous city in the State of Texas, and the fourth most populous in the United States, and the most populous city in the Southern portion of the United States. Houston is situated in Southeast Texas near Galveston Bay and bordering the Gulf of Mexico. The City of Houston is located in Harris Country, and the surrounding metro is known as the Greater Houston area. Houston, Texas is an integral part of the Golden Triangle; a large region of Southeast Texas. 

Founded August 30th, 1836 by real estate land investors at what is now known as Allen's Landing, the City of Houston would soon incorporate on June 5th, 1837. Houston would serve for a brief period of time as the Captial of the Texas Republic, and it continues to serve as one of the United States largest regional trading centers even to present day.

Early events in the 19th Century including the Hurricane of 1900 that destroyed Galveston Island, followed by building of the Houston Ship Channel, led to significant growth of Houston, Texas; especially in the production and transportation of Texas oil. Over the years, the Houston economy has continued to diversify becoming home to the Texas Medical Center; the world's largest and most advanced hospital and research center in the world. NASA's Johnson Space Center, home of the Mission Control Center, also pushed Houston, Texas into the spotlight of the world.

Houston, Texas has several nicknames including the "Bayou City", "Space City", and the "713". Houston has some of the best food spots in the world, a diverse population and clash of cultures, the Museum District, a Theater District, and some of the best sport teams and venues in the country.
