YouTube Suggested Videos Fix for Website Embeds and Blog Posts

I got a question the other day asking about how to prevent unwanted videos from showing up as suggested videos when embedding a YouTube video on a website or blog post. Sometimes these videos are your direct competition, and other times they can be other videos that as a business owner you would not want your customers or clients to see.

Up until 2018, YouTube had a feature customizing the embed code for a YouTube video to completely eliminate video suggestions upon completion. This is no longer available, yet their is a small alteration you can make to the embed code to suggest only videos from your channel. The code is: ?rel=0

Here are the steps to edit the embed code to display suggested videos from your channel.

  1. Visit YouTube, and open your video that you would like to embed on your website or blog.
  2. Click on 'Share' and copy embed code.
  3. When in source mode (which is <>) on your website, paste embed code. Notice in the example below, I also used <center> and </center> to center the video iFrame.
  4. Add ?rel=0 immediately behind the video link. I've bold the HTML in the example below.
  5. Save.

To check, go to the end of the video, and let it play out. The videos that are suggested should be other videos from your channel. Example of Modified Embed Code<center><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/e-6lBdCP8G4?rel=0" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe></center>
