Unveiling the Hidden Depths: What Blue Whales Teach Us About Business Success

Unveiling the Hidden Depths: What Blue Whales Teach Us About Business Success | Jeremy Williams Red Hawk Coaching Real Estate Small Business Coach

I shared on Facebook of our experience getting the rare opportunity to see a blue whale. Today I‘d like to share it as a business lesson.

This creature was massive. In the movie Jaws, the famous line of we’re going to need a bigger boat came to mind. The whale would come up for 2 - 3 minutes and then dove down for 12 minutes. While the work at the top of the water was important, breathing, more time was spent below the water to feed. (Fun fact, these whales eat over 4,000 lbs. of krill a day, and they now believe it may be up to 2 - 3 time that amount. They can also take in 10,000 gallons of water in their mouth at one time.)

The point is we get to see the beauty of this animal at the surface, yet we don’t get to see all the work of survival that takes place beneath the surface. How true is this also in business? You may be looking around at others having success in business, yet you are only seeing their business at the surface. You must realize all the work that’s happening below the surface. All the work is takes to survive as a business owner. It’s the failures, lessons learned from these failures, the gain and loss of relationships, the hours put in, the deals closed and the deals lost, etc.

Today, don’t get caught up in the surface level stuff of others. It may be fascinating, it may cause you to doubt exactly where you are in your personal journey, and it may take you off course. Instead work on the below the surface things in both your business and life. Below the surface is where all the important things happen so when you do surface, everyone will be in marvel of your work.

Onward and Upward…
