The Poison Apples in Business Are Excuses

What do I see more often than not prevent a business owner from growing to the next level? The answer is excuses. We can be our own worst enemy in the progress to achieving massive success.

Definition of Excuse: attempt to lessen the blame attaching to (a fault or offense), seek to defend or justify

I know over the years I've dealt with making excuses in my personal and professional life (exactly why as a coach, I have a coach to keep me accountable). I believe excuses get easier to make as we are approach an area that makes us feel uncomfortable. Excuses can serve as a defense mechanism to avoid the pain of stretching our being to accomplish BIG goals, or to keep that small voice from getting louder in our head telling us we will not succeed; a preconceived notion that failure is looming on the horizon (It's almost like we've pre-written the story that attempting "x" won't result in "y", and the excuse protects us from reading and living that story out loud. Simple avoidance.)

When we can catch ourselves making excuses, and make a choice not to buy into the excuses, what opportunities are created? Results start showing up. We begin to follow through on what we intuitively know are the things we should be doing to progress on the path to success. We begin to remove obstacles. We get comfortable being uncomfortable, and this change in our mindset and actions elevate us to being a person of growth and achievement.

I hear this often, "Jeremy, you don't understand my predicament." Truth bomb. Everyone has predicaments. Everyone has challenges. Some are bigger than others. Yet, I can't share with you (because my coaching conversations are 100% confidential) the number of people I've worked with over the years that could have easily made excuses because of their health, personal relationships, or finances that chose not to make an excuse in their pursuit to get better and move forward. They chose not to be a victim, and instead they chose to be a victor. These individuals knew that other people counted on them being successful.

Excuses are like a poison, and once they start infiltrating, they can creep into all areas of your life. How do you defeat excuses? You get more aware of your thoughts and actions. Pay attention to how you react to being stretched. Be aware of your language and tonality. Hire a coach like me that won't let you make excuses.

Overcoming excuses will set you a different path, and everything will be framed differently in your world. It is freeing, it is challenging, and it is rewarding. If you need help in this area of your business and/or life (because I believe these co-exist), connect with me at 281-387-7689.

Have a great and productive day...no excuses.
