Make It Happen

"Some people want to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen."

"Wants" and "wishes" will only get you so far, yet real results are when you put in the effort to make it happen.

What if Michael Jordan didn't make his opportunity happen? The story of his sophomore year in high school when he was rejected a spot on the varsity roster because the coach deemed him too short. (Note: It's funny how they've never mentioned the coach's name, nor if I were the coach, would want to be named). What if Jordan simply stopped putting in the effort when he didn't get what he wanted or wished for to make the varsity team?

Would there have been a Michael Jordan? Would there have been people wearing Air Jordan shoes? Would there be vigorous debates on whether or not Jordan or Kobe Bryant being the greatest player to ever play the game?

Instead, Jordan put in the work in the following summer and grew another 4 inches. He earned a spot on the varsity roster averaging 25 points a game in his final two seasons of high school basketball. In 1981, he played in the McDonald's All-American Game and scored 30 points. He was recruited to numerous colleges including Duke, North Carolina, South Carolina, Syracuse, and Virginia. He would go on to play for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

At Chapel Hill, he was named ACC Freshman of the Year, and in 1982, Jordan, in Jordan-style, made the game-winning jump shot in the NCAA Championship Game against Georgetown. (Guess who was on the other side of the court? Patrick Ewing a future rival of his in the NBA.)

Jordan would go on to setting multiple scoring records, 2, three-peats with a stint of minor league baseball in between. He retired twice only to come back to basketball, led a movement in the shoe industry and much more. When you think basketball, you think Michael Jordan.

Again, what if he just "wanted" and "wished" for greater things? What if he gave up on his dream of playing basketball the first time he was cut? I truly believe none of the other things that happened would have happened. Jordan made it happen. He put in the intentional work.

As a business owner, are you "wanting" and "wishing", or have you made the decision to "make it happen". I challenge you to the latter. It's in your hands. Go make it happen today. It's how legends are made.
