Lessons Shared by U.S. Representative, Dan Crenshaw

The keynote speaker for the event was U.S. Representative Dan Crenshaw. Dan Crenshaw is the United States Representative for the Texas 2nd Congressional District. A United States Navy Seal that served on Seal Team 3 in Afghanistan, he was injured in combat by an IED, and upon return and recovery was elected into Congress in 2018 to replace the retiring Ted Poe.

Dan spoke with the crowd in attendance about some of the different sayings used throughout Navy Seal training, and the sayings definitley had application beyond the training in both business and life. It got me to research the topic, and I added my own spin on to some of what Dan shared.

"Embrace the suck." You are going to face challenges in life, and you've got to be capable of dealing with them. Nothing is going to go exactly as planned, and knowing that, embracing the suck, from that challenge comes opportunity for learning and personal growth and development.

"Don't be that guy." Don't be the one that jacks things up. Don't be the one if depended upon to drop your responsibilities thus impacting everyone involved.

"The only easy day was yesterday." Everyday is a new day. New challenges and obstacles you will have to overcome. My favorite phrase as a kid was "suck it up buttercup". Thinking that everything will be easy tomorrow is setting yourself up for a world of hurt. Yesterday was easy, and today is a new day. Be prepared to battle.

"It's easier to stay up vs. catch up." I liked how Dan tied this into weight loss. Obesity in our country is a pandemic. It is easy to say, "I will start that workout or diet tomorrow." Why not start now? Why not stay up on your health than waiting to play catch up later. It is always easier to keep up. The same in taking on your business activities. If you procrastinate, things will stack up, and more than likely, not get done. Just stay up with the work load, and you will find both work and life easier.
