Are You Buying into Group Think or Coaching?

Introspective thinking is being challenged today especially in the world of my profession - coaching small business owners. The emphasis on group think and being led by individuals placed on platforms in the industry is dangerous and should be recognized. Coaches surpassing the role of a leader to a cult like following, their egos are only driven and grown by those that follow them. I speak to having been a cog in the wheel in the past, and it was why since coaching started back in 2010, I made the decision to launch Red Hawk Coaching in 2017.

In conversations with small business owners about their coaching experiences, they would say things like:

"I am told every year to double my business, and I've been doing that the last few years. I am at a place where I want to focus on maintaining, yet my coach is saying I am limiting my potential."

"I am being told that I'm a small thinker if I don't implement the 10X rule in my business. I would be good with a 3X of my business, and this would allow me to meet all my goals, yet I feel inadequate not 10Xing everything I do."

"I feel like I am striving after the goals set by my coach and not by me."

"Every time I share with my coach where I've not achieved, they remind me that I'm not living up to my potential."

I've seen, heard, and experienced these things over the years. It is not what I believe coaching should be, and the results my clients are achieving is evidence that my approach works. What is that approach?

  1. I believe myself as a coach to be a leader. Now my leadership comes from a place of servant leadership. I will always give more.

  1. Coaching is about your goal not mine. Asking great questions of my clients allows them to determine their goals.

  1. I will encourage and never discourage. I never tell my clients they are limiting their potential. I realize that everyone has ups and downs. I don't coach machines. I coach people that have thoughts, experience feelings, and take action. Failures are seen as learning experiences to build from.

  1. I never take credit for my clients' achievements as they put in the work, and I will celebrate their wins.

  1. Circling back to the top of this post, I challenge my people to think - to think on their own accord. Each person is wonderfully and uniquely created and has the capability of forming their own thoughts and opinions. Instead of telling others how to think, I will ask questions that allow my people to be introspective and make the best decisions for themselves and their businesses.

If you asked me what I do everyday, my answer would be to ask great questions. Great questions spur thinking. Thinking leads to the way people feel. Feelings lead to action. Action leads to results.

If you're searching for the type of coaching that allows you to be you, and the expectations are not that of the coach rather the expectations you set for yourself, let's have a conversation.

If you're experiencing coaching where the coach is determining your path without your input because it is more about their ego, let's have a conversation.

If you're being told you're failing at your potential, let's have a conversation.

If you want to hire a coach where the clients are having wins, let's have a conversation.

If you're ready to break the chains around the mind and avoid the traps of group think, let's have a conversation.

You owe it to yourself to seek out, whether it is hiring me or another coach in the industry, a coach that challenges you to think. If I can be of service, reach out.
