3 Principles Learned from the Unprecedented Loss of the Houston Texans | Real Estate Coach Jeremy Williams

Staying with the Houston Texans theme (Read Somebody Had to be Great Why Not Me), my thoughts today seem only appropriate with the outcome yesterday. BTW - Great season to all the players this season. Win or lose, I am a fan.
Wiith a 24 point lead against the favored Kansas City Chiefs, there was still 40 minutes of game to play, and it quickly became the Patrick Mahomes show. What I found interesting was during that Texans lead, the cameras would go to sideline shots of the KC players, and Mahomes was rallying the troops. It seemed at one point he might of said, "We got this." KC would go on to outscore the Texans 51 - 31 to advance to the AFC Game securing home field advantage.
What is the life and business lessons learned here?
  1. Kansas City was favored to win. When you are favored to win, when you've been seen as successful in your achievements in business and life, the magnifying glass is directly over you. Expectations are higher. The pressure increases. Everything is elevated. How you handle this matters? The accountability rises. You may even have people rooting against you (The Haters) wanting to see you fail. Being at the top of your game is not always the easiest place to be positioned. BTW - This also means that you might just be doing something right.
  2. A funny, not so funny as a fan, meme floated around shortly after the game stating the Texans were 1st Quarter Champions. The 2nd lesson is no matter how great things are going, don't take your foot off the pedal. You will always have someone or something chasing you. You can't get comfortable being out front in your business or life. You've probably heard to grow, you've got to stay uncomfortable. Growth happens in the uncomfortable zone. What happened to the Texans? They got comfortable with a lead, and then did not show up for the next 3 quarters. When things are happening in business and life, keep your foot on the pedal because everything can change quickly.
  3. The third lesson is do what you do well. Patrick Mahomes did not vary his game plan, and he kept doing what he does well; improvise. The commentators often mentioned the Magic of Mahomes. His 6th sense to create something out of nothing. To non-fans it was magic, and to his fans, it was what he did week in and week out throughout the season. He stuck to his game plan. In business and life, stop hopping around chasing the shiny object. Focus on doing what you do well. Riches in the niches. Don't be everything to everyone. That attempt will get you no where. Stay true to who you are as a person, and do those things you know will get the results. Remember it is time on task over time. Patience. It is also being in gratitude of the journey. Patrick Mahomes performance definitely showcased this thought yesterday, and ultimately gave his team the opportunity to make an epic comeback to win the game.
Expectations will always be greater when you win, keep your foot on the pedal, and keep focused on doing what you do well, these are principles that will keep you moving towards your goals in business and life.
Go out and make it happen this week both in business and life. I believe in you.
Onward and Upward,
